Senior Group Leader - After School Care

Job Description:



Responsible for assisting the Program Supervisor and Site Coordinators in the daily operations of the program.  Assists in Guiding and training of staff, oversight of all program activities, communicating with families and ensuring all equipment and supplies are availiable, and in safe working condition.



Essential Duties and Responsibilities:



  • Plans, supervises and implements the program in accordance with the goals and policies of Reston Association, and VA state licensing regulations for Child Care in VA

  • Effectively develops and or assists with and carries out appropriate lesson plans that can be followed by staff

  • Develops and or assists with a substitute folder containing lesson plans, daily schedule, special activities, and emergency information

  • Understands and is able to incorporate Developmental Assets into the curriculum activities for children

  • Establishes structure and routines for children setting boundaries and behavior guidelines

  • Provides guidance, leadership and training to other staff (Group Leaders) in the performance of their duties

  • Responsible for the safety of the children at all times, including understanding and being able to implement emergency procedures as necessary

  • Attends parent/child events as required

  • Effectively communicates with parents throughout the program year

  • Maintains an attractive and clean classroom/area at all times

  • Reports concerns, conflicts, or other problems directly to their director

  • Ensures that all supplies and program needs are available at the time necessary for the participants

  • Documents attendance, absenteeism and incidents for each child in compliance with state/county/district requirements

  • May be assigned other duties as required

Minimum Qualifications:

Education, Certification, Skills, and Experience:





  • Must be at least 18 years of age




  • Must have high school diploma or GED




  • Encouraged to obtain CDA within 18 months of employment




  • Current CPR and First Aid Certification and MAT training




  • Documentation of physical examination and TB skin test




  • Clear the local jurisdiction requirements for criminal background and/or fingerprinting




  • Must meet the county/state licensing requirements




  • Must have the critical skill of being able to relate to parents, school staff and children and have a positive, creative attitude




  • Must be able to work as a team leader/member




  • Must be able to effectively communicate with children and parents




  • Must understand RA’s mission and vision, and be committed to working with diverse population Complete Training for:

Working Conditions:





  • Must be able to stand or sit for prolonged periods of time




  • Must be physically active to play games and sports with the children




  • Must be able to pick-up at least 35 pounds




  • Must have visual acuity to observe all children
