Group Leader - After School Care

Job Description:

Responsible for assisting the Program Supervisor, Site Coordinators and or Senior Group Leaders in the daily operations of the program.  Responsible for assisting in the development and implementation of all after school activities under the guidelines of Reston Association . Assists in oversight of all program activities, communicating with supervisors/families and ensuring all equipment is in safe working condition, and supplies are available.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Implements the program in accordance with the goals and policies of Reston Association.
  • Effectively implements daily afterschool curriculum
  • Understands and is able to incorporate Developmental Assets into the activities for children
  • Establish and or maintain structure and routines for children setting boundaries and behavior guidelines
  • Responsible for the safety of the children at all times, including understanding and being able to implement emergency procedures as necessary
  • Attends parent/child events as required
  • Effectively is able to communicate with parents and or direct parents to director throughout the program year
  • Maintains an attractive and clean program area at all times
  • Reports concerns, conflicts, or other problems directly to the supervisor
  • Documents attendance, absenteeism and incidents for each child in compliance with state/county/district requirements
  • May be assigned other duties as required
Minimum Qualifications:

Education, Certification, Skills, and Experience:

  • Must be at least 16 years of age
  • Must be working towards high school diploma or GED
  • Current CPR and First Aid Certification
  • Documentation of physical examination and TB skin test
  • Clear the local jurisdiction requirements for criminal background and/or fingerprinting
  • Must meet the county/state licensing requirements
  • Must have the critical skill of being able to relate to parents, school staff and children and have a positive, creative attitude
  • Must be able to work as a team member
  • Must be able to effectively communicate with children and parents
  • Must understand RA’s mission and vision, and be committed to working with diverse population

    • Facility Orientation
    • Child Care Policy/Prevention of child abuse
    • Afterschool Care Policies
    • Staff/Parent Handbook
    • Curriculum
    • Emergency Procedures


Working Conditions:

  • Must be able to stand or sit for prolonged periods of time
  • Must be physically active to play games and sports with the children
  • Must be able to pick-up at least 35 pounds
  • Must have visual acuity to observe all children
