Assistant Group Leader - After School Care

Job Description:

Assists Sr. Group leader and or Group leader in providing leadership to a group of children in the Afterschool Care program.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assists in implementing the daily program activities
  • Participates in staff trainings, meetings, and conferences as required
  • Assists in guiding students and helps them adjust and grow in relationships with one another
  • May lead a small group of children in activities that may include music, games, homework club, art, storytelling etc.
  • Responsible for the safety of the children at all times
  • Interacts with the children at all times, taking part in each activity in which the children are involved
  • Assists and participates in special activities, and special events when required or asked
  • Encourages respect for personal property, equipment, and facilities
  • Maintains good public relations with parents
  • Supports the program goals of Reston Association
  • May be assigned other duties as required
Minimum Qualifications:

Education, Certification, Skills, and Experience:

  • Must be 16 years of age
  • Current CPR and First Aid Certification
  • Documentation of physical examination and TB skin test
  • Clear the local jurisdiction requirements for criminal background and/or fingerprinting
  • Must meet the county/state licensing requirements
  • Ability to work well with others; take guidance and direction; be enthusiastic, patient, and flexible
  • Skilled in teaching a variety of crafts, songs, stories, games, sports, and related afterschool activities
  • Must be able to effectively communicate with children and parents
  • Must understand and be committed to working with diverse population
  • Complete Training for:
    • Blood Borne Pathogens
    • Facility Orientation
    • Child Care Policy/Prevention of child abuse
    • Policies
    • Staff/Parent Handbook
    • Curriculum
    • Emergency Procedures

Working Conditions:

  • Must be able to work scheduled afterschool hours along with some days where publid schools are not in session.
  • Must be able to stand or sit for prolonged periods of time
  • Must be physically active to play games and sports with the children
  • Must be able to pick-up at least 35 pounds
  • Must have visual acuity to observe all children
