Seasonal Environmental Resource Field Worker

Job Description:
Assists the Environmental Resource staff in managing Reston’s parkland. Primary duties include native planting, invasive plant removal, property maintenance and surveying, trail maintenance and erosion control, garden plot maintenance, repair and installation of wire fencing and debris removal. Performs additional general labor duties as necessary and as assigned.

Willing to receive on-the-job training for the Pesticide Registered Technicians Certification for Forest Pests (60), which requires applying pesticides. Willing to take a written exam to receive certification within 90 days of training. 


 
Minimum Qualifications:

 

Must be 18 years old or older. Valid driver's license and good driving record required. Some course work in the natural sciences or related field highly preferred.  

Must be comfortable working outdoors and driving a pick-up truck. Must be hardworking and enthusiastic. Must have ability to interact courteously with the public. 

Must be able to lift and carry heavy or awkward loads up to 80 pounds and work in bending and standing positions as needed.  Must be able to use hand tools, power tools, and other equipment as necessary to perform daily tasks. Must be willing to apply pesticides and receive training for certification.

Must be able to pass a full criminal background check and drug test.
