Job Description:

Instructs all group exercise classes within the guidelines of the Association and maintains the quality of programs that they are certified to lead.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The Group Exercise Instructor will be responsible for instructing all group exercise classes within the guidelines of the Association and maintains the quality of programs that they are certified to lead.

 

  1. Demonstrates skills and explains them clearly to class members
  2. Works at learning level of particular class
  3. Prepares appropriate equipment, music and handouts for each class
  4. Responsible for the safety of all participants during class time
  5. Works with individual students within class structure to enable all to correct faults,improve self-image and progress in their fitness program
  6. Reports to class on time, prepared with materials and equipment, and dressed in appropriate attire
  7. Knows emergency procedures and the location of emergency equipment
  8. Keeps class attendance and records
  9. Secures qualified substitutes to be approved by supervisor well in advance and provides substitutes with rosters and lesson plans
  10. Attends pre-session instructor meetings, staff meetings, and instructor workshops as required
  11. Maintains all personal certifications; attends workshops and recertification training as needed or required
  12. Prepares teaching area with necessary equipments and returns it to storage at the end of class
  13. Participates in branch recruitment for class participants or in program promotion events
  14. Supports management in programming decisions
  15. Adheres to all RA Group Programming policies and procedures
  16. Performs related duties as required
Minimum Qualifications:

 High School Diploma or GED, Must be 18 years of age.  Requires First Aid, CPR certification or equivalent.  Must have and maintain a current Fitness or Group Fitness related certification.

Minimum of one year teaching experience, must display an outgoing personality, good customer service, demonstrates interest in working with individuals as well as groups of people.  Responsible for the leading multiple group fitness classes that range in variety and levels from Yoga to Hip Hop. This includes counting, cueing, organizing choreography, etc.
